Leicester boss Rodgers reveals Wesley Fofana return timetable
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the fitness of sidelined Wesley Fofana, with the news far from encouraging.
Central defender Fofana was of course involved in one of the more harrowing moments of the Premier League pre-season schedule, earlier this week.
Amid the Foxes’ endeavours to step up their preparations for the new season, Rodgers’ men welcomed Europa League holders Villarreal to the King Power Stadium, for a highly anticipated friendly clash.
A thoroughly entertaining affair subsequently played out, with Leicester having ultimately emerged on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline.

An otherwise fine evening for the East Midlands outfit, however, was soured significantly by a concerning blow on the personnel front.
An hour into proceedings, a completely needless challenge on the part of Villarreal’s Fer Nino saw the young attacker leave the aforementioned Fofana grounded, and in evident pain.
A stretcher, in turn, was quickly produced, as the serious nature of the Frenchman’s issue became increasingly clear.
Speaking in the aftermath of the clash, Brendan Rodgers subsequently went on to confirm that Fofana had suffered a fractured fibula, with a hitherto unspecified spell on the sidelines, as a result, lying in wait.
🗣 “He fractured his fibula. We’re devastated for him.”

And, on Saturday, a further insight into the situation has been forthcoming.
During a post-match media exchange on the back of Leicester’s Community Shield downing of Manchester City, Rodgers was asked for an update on Fofana’s wellbeing.
And, after revealing that his gifted young stopper has suffered ‘bad’ ligament damage, with an operation therefore on the horizon, the Foxes boss confirmed that Fofana will not return to the pitch until next year at the earliest:
🗣️ Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Wesley Fofana will be out until 2022:
“Unfortunately the ligament damage is quite bad. He’s in great spirits, he wants to stay here and be around his teammates. He has an operation on Monday and his recovery will start there.”
