Leeds United boss Jesse March provides Patrick Bamford and Adam Forshaw injury updates ahead of Crystal Palace trip

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has revealed that Patrick Bamford is edging closer to recovery, and should be taking part in full training next week when quizzed about his forward ahead of the Yorkshire outfit’s trip to Selhurst Park on Sunday.

Meanwhile the news is not as good for midfielder Adam Forshaw, who has suffered a fractured kneecap that will rule him out for the remainder of the season at Elland Road, the American boss confirmed.

While the news comes as yet another blow in Forshaw’s career, the return of Kalvin Phillips to the Leeds United midfield will help to mitigate just how much the issue affects the club.

Far more pressing is the return of Bamford, who has only managed seven Premier League starts this season as a result of a combination of injuries. However, he could be back before the end of the season.

‘He’s making good progress’, Marsch told reporters. ‘He’s been running on the AlterG [treadmill] and should be on the training pitch next week.’

Leeds safe for another season?

At the moment, Leeds sit five points clear of the drop zone with six games left to play, but that could change very quickly. Jesse Marsch’s side know that, with both Everton and Burnley picking up points below them, they need to continue doing so to be sure of their status as a top flight club next season.

And, with games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal all to come between now and the final reckoning, as well as tricky trips to Brighton and Brentford, the game against a Crystal Palace side who have lost two on the bounce could have far bigger ramifications than initially expected.

It feels as though Leeds need to get one more result between now and the end of the season to be sure of survival.
