Leeds boost: Marcelo Bielsa confirms contract talks ‘resolved’

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has, on Thursday, confirmed that he is primed to commit his future to the club for another season.

Whites stint

Argentine tactician Bielsa has of course long represented a beloved figure in West Yorkshire.

The former Marseille and Lille boss has been on the bench at Elland Road since the summer of 2018, when he was chosen as the man to replace Paul Heckingbottom.

Bielsa has since gone on to endure a fine spell with the Whites, the crowning achievement of which saw him guide Leeds back to the Premier League last year, for the first time since 2004.

And the club’s showings in the top-flight, in turn, have since seen them secure many an admirer, with the all-action stylings of ‘Bielsa ball’ having been on full display throughout the 2020/21 campaign.

Following a 3-1 final day downing of West Brom, Leeds leapfrogged Everton, to finish out the season in a hugely respectable 9th place.

As such, it goes without saying that, given the choice, the Leeds faithful would no doubt be in favour of their side moving forward with Bielsa on the club’s bench for the foreseeable future.

And, as outlined above, on Thursday, supporters of such a persuasion have been handed a boost.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s highly anticipated Premier League opener versus Manchester United this weekend, Marcelo Bielsa was asked for the latest on his negotiations with the hierarchy at Elland Road.

And the 66-year-old simply went on to confirm that the situation has been ‘resolved’, with a one-year contract extension having been agreed upon, through next summer.

*Update* – Leeds themselves have since confirmed the news across the club’s social media platforms:
