We thought the Motorola Edge 40 would be announced alongside the Edge 40 Pro, but that wasn’t the case. We’ve already seen detailed specs of the phone (unofficially), which unlike the Pro is brand new hardware (the Pro is based on the Moto X40).

And more importantly, the price has also leaked, €600. It’s just a leak, of course, but the rumors were correct that the Pro model would cost €900 – that €300 gap between them can have a big impact on each phone’s desirability.

Here are some new images of the Moto Edge 40, starting with “Viva Magenta” (a hue recently used for the Edge 30 Fusion). Viva Magenta was named Pantone Color of the Year 2023, hence the small Pantone badge on the back.

Here are a few more colorways, all shared by Roland Quandt. Note that all but the blue have a faux leather texture. These colors should be known as Nebula Green, Lunar Blue and Eclipse Black.

As a quick reminder, the vanilla Motorola Edge 40 is expected to be powered by the Dimensity 8020, with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage, it’s expected to have a 6.55-inch FHD+ OLED display (20:9, 144Hz ), a 50MP main screen camera (1.0µm pixels, f/1.4 aperture, OIS), 13MP ultrawide module (120°) and 2MP macro camera, plus a 32MP selfie camera on the front (0.7µm, f/2.4).

The battery will have a capacity of 4,400mAh and will support 68W wired TurboPower charging and 15W wireless charging. The leatherette and acrylic versions will have an IP68 dust and water resistance rating . One thing we still don’t know is when Motorola will make this model official.
