KZN man apprehended for advertising house for sale without owner’s consent

A 47-year-old man alleged to have passed off as a real estate agent has been charged with fraud and is expected to appear for the first time in the Durban Magistrates’ Court today.

KZN police said the man was apprehended on Monday at his rented office in Windermere Durban.

Police spokesman Captain Nqobile Gwala said the suspect was positively in connection with a fraud case in which the whistleblower saw an advertisement for a house for sale in Umlazi through social media.

It appeared that the house the suspect was selling belongs to somebody else and it was placed on sale without the owner’s knowledge.”

The price of the house that was about to be fraudulently sold to different people without the owners knowledge was R220 000.”

Gwala said the suspect’s laptop, cell phone and fraudulent documents were confiscated by members of the eThekwini District Task Force.

He added that it was also alleged that the suspect would post homes for sale in Umlazi and the Durban metropolitan area on social media.

The investigation revealed that the suspect would make the unsuspecting and desperate client to sign an offer to purchase agreement on houses by showing them pictures.”
