Keith Thurman Believes Deontay Wilder Is Following Canelo Alvarez’s Footsteps: “He’s Demanding More Out of Himself”
Deontay Wilder ranks among the most sublime hard hitters in the heavyweight roster. In his illustrious boxing career, Wilder battered every opponent he faced. However, a year ago, he succumbed to a disheartening loss to Tyson Fury, and now he’s in preparations to face the Brit in a trilogy.
Citing Wilder’s stint in the game, Keith Thurman compared the Alabama native to the P4P king, Canelo Alvarez. Speaking to FightHype, he said, “I constantly bring up, Canelo, because Canelo was already a devastating puncher and a devastating fighter and a tough Mexican. He was already those things when he fought Floyd (Mayweather).”
“You know, but post, Floyd, the way he evolved and the fighter he is today, he’s better because he demanded from himself, more. And I believe that’s the stage that Deontay‘s in right now, where he’s demanding more out of himself.”
In February 2020, Wilder touched gloves with ‘The Gypsy King’ for the second time. Prior to facing the British boxer, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was regarded as the scariest heavyweight boxer. But Fury derailed his hype and smothered him to dethrone him.
Citing that, Thurman came up with his above comparisons between Canelo and Wilder. In 2013, Saul Alvarez battled the boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather, and the former capitulated to his first career loss. However, after that, he has been flawless and invincible.
