JUST IN: Chidinma makes U-turn, denies killing Super TV CEO Ataga
Chidinma Ojukwu, the suspect arrested in connection with the death of Michael Ataga, CEO of Super TV, has denied killing him.
Ataga was found dead days after checking into an apartment with the suspect in Lekki, Lagos.
The suspect had fled the scene of the crime until she was arrested at her father’s house in Yaba, Lagos.
When she was paraded by the police in June, the 300 level student of the University of Lagos had said she killed him while he was trying to force himself on her.
She had sought forgiveness, saying she did not want to die.
“I regret killing Mr Ataga. I don’t know what my future holds but I don’t want to die. Please, I don’t want to die because of this case. I have not killed before.”
“I totally regret everything I did and I am sorry. Mr Ataga’s family, I am deeply sorry for what I did. If I had my life back, I wouldn’t do anything like that. I am deeply sorry and I hope you forgive me,” Chidinma had said at the time.
But in a new video which is currently in circulation, Chidinma said she knows nothing about Ataga’s death.
“I didn’t involve anybody. I don’t know who must have come into the apartment. Definitely, somebody did that but I don’t know who that person is.
“I don’t know what happened when I left the room to buy food. Because of what I did after by not alerting the police and also withdrawing money from his account, I feel guilty for what happened but I did not kill him.
“I believe someone knew where we were and waited till I left before they entered. Due to pressure and insistence of the security operatives that nobody entered the room apart from the two, I resolved that since no one believed me, let me just take the blame.
“No one is influencing my statements. I have not spoken to anyone since my arrest, not even my relation or anybody close to me
“I just withdrew the money because he had already promised me, it’s not like I had anything to do with his death. I don’t have anything to do with his death,” she said.
Chidinma had earlier shared more personal details about the deceased, describing the deceased as someone who gets angry easily and was always busy.
According to her “He was actually a busy person but at a point, I found out that he lies a lot just to be able to have sex with young girls.
“He wasn’t having a good marriage either because I noticed he had issues with his wife. They had a marital crisis and he was there only for the kids,” she said.
