Jurgen Klopp reveals he may watch one of Liverpool’s loanees in action, instead of Salah vs Mane in AFCON

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he may not watch the fast-approaching Africa Cup of Nations finale ‘closely’, to instead focus his attentions on a member of the club’s loan army.

The 2022 AFCON showpiece is of course set to kick into gear in just a few hours’ time.

The matchup will see favourites Senegal face off against the tournament’s most successful ever nation, in the form of Egypt.

With two members of his side’s heralded frontline, in the form of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, therefore set to go head to head for glory, the assumption was therefore that Jurgen Klopp would, understandably, be keen to keep a close eye on proceedings in Yaounde.

The German, however, has this evening admitted that he may well opt against devoting his full attention to the AFCON final.

This comes with Klopp seemingly more enticed by the proposition of Nat Phillips lining out for his Bournemouth debut against Boreham Wood, after the Liverpool stopper was granted a loan move to Dean Court during the January transfer window:

Klopp’s comments of course come fresh off the back of his side booking their own spot in the 5th-round of the FA Cup earlier on Sunday.

The Reds welcomed Championship outfit Cardiff City to Anfield, eventually emerging on the right side of a 3-1 scoreline owing to strikes on the part of all of Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino and the returning Harvey Elliott.

Klopp’s troops, in turn, face another home fixture in the competition’s next round, when they are set to welcome Norwich City to Merseyside for a Last-16 clash early in March.
