The reds host the Spanish outfit knowing that a victory would see them through to the knockout stages of the competition with two games to go, leaving Porto and Atleti to fight it out for the second qualification spot.
They have already bested Simeone and co. once, after a controversial 90 minutes in which VAR denied the Spanish side a penalty for a foul seemingly similar to one which Liverpool were awarded a spot-kick for. While tempers threatened to boil over, the Reds held their nerve to escape the Wanda Metropolitano with all three points.
Klopp issues update on midfield quartet
One of the brighter sparks, at least for part of the encounter, was Naby Keita. The Liverpool midfielder netted the second goal in the game, but was forced off before halftime due to injury. He has since been substituted due to injury against Manchester United and Brighton too, with the clash against the Seagulls leaving the most lasting impression.
Now speaking ahead of the clash with Atletico, Jurgen Klopp has revealed that some lasting damage has been done, confirming that the former Leipzig man will be out “for a while”.

Additionally, James Milner remains sidelined too, courtesy of an injury he also picked up in the away tie. In better news, however, both Thiago and Fabinho, who have been missing since the Champions League tie, have “trained completely normal” and are therefore in contention to play.
