Jordan Henderson offers verdict on Liverpool new boy Ibrahima Konate following rare start vs Manchester United
Konate’s Liverpool stint
Ibrahima Konate would be signed by Liverpool from RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window to add some quality depth to the Reds’ backline.
Konate was handed his competitive debut for Liverpool vs Crystal Palace, following his move from RB Leipzig over the summer.
Konate started the tie and completed the full 90 minutes, of course keeping a clean sheet in the process.
The defender received praise from Jurgen Klopp following the match, with the German labelling Konate’s debut as ‘top’.
Konate would then start in an complete 90 minutes as Liverpool saw off Norwich by three goals to nil in the third round of the League Cup last month.
Henderson speaks on Konate
However, the Frenchman had since not been able to earn a start for Liverpool, with Joel Matip instead becoming the clear partner for Virgil van Dijk.
But, on Sunday, Konate was somewhat surprisingly handed a rare start for Liverpool vs Manchester United.
The Merseysiders won the tie 5-0 and Konate put on a stellar showing.
Now, speaking after the game, Jordan Henderson has offered his verdict on Konate, labelling his display vs Liverpool as top class:
“We’ve got a few very, very good centre-backs so it’s difficult, but I thought he was top class.
“You’ve got to be to get a clean sheet at Old Trafford so I’m delighted for him and delighted for the team in terms of a clean sheet, I thought, was big for us and we need to keep that going.”
Henderson continued
“To concede two in midweek we were disappointed with after going 2-0 up, so we knew today we wanted to try to keep a clean sheet, which I thought was very good for us.
“And we obviously scored some amazing goals, which is what everybody wants to see as well.”
