John Cena’s Return Date for WWE SmackDown Revealed

The most popular headline in the wrestling industry at the moment is the return of John Cena. Up until now, everyone knew he was returning, nobody knew when.

However, former WWE writer, Vince Russo, revealed that date by when Cena is expected to make his WWE return.

“John Cena will make his return on SmackDown on July 16th.”

This means that Cena is returning to the company on the day the 25-city summer tour starts.

John Cena’s Return Date for WWE SmackDown Revealed

Previously, Cena had confirmed he is returning to the company, but hadn’t revealed a date for the same.

Cena wanted to come back or even appear at WrestleMania 37. Unfortunately, he was shooting in Vancouver at that time, and his schedule did not permit travelling back and forth, along with the mandatory quarantine time. Regardless, he expressed how glad he is to see the company moving on with the younger talents and producing excellent shows, matches, and segments.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic global lockdown, WWE had shifted to relying on virtual viewership. Now, the company is restarting the tours and needs to give the WWE Universe a match they would want to see live.

This means bringing back a huge name who hasn’t worked with the company in a while. There are a couple of names that come to mind such as The Rock, John Cena, and Brock Lesnar.

Out of the three, Cena has always expressed his desire to return and that he’s awaiting the perfect opportunity. It seems like the time is here, and The Invisible Man himself is coming back to the squared circle.

Considering he’s returning on SmackDown, WWE will book him against the Universal Champion. Currently, it’s Roman Reigns, but Edge has returned to SmackDown as well, so there’s no saying who will be champion by the time July 16th, 2021 arrives.

Nevertheless, the company was planning to book the SummerSlam 2021 main event with an action packed match – Roman Reigns vs. John Cena. If this is still the plan, Reigns will be champion for a while now.

Moreover, if Cena wins the title from the champion, his long-time return will be confirmed. WWE wouldn’t make him champion if he was returning for a short time.
