Jesse Lingard dedicates first England goal since 2018 to Cristiano Ronaldo

England and Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has grabbed the headlines this evening, on the back of a memorable goal celebration versus Andorra.

England impressing

The Three Lions are of course currently locked in action, in their latest 2022 World Cup qualifier.

Gareth Southgate and co. welcomed minnows Andorra to Wembley for a Group I clash, no doubt brimming with confidence.

This comes with England having thoroughly impressed in the nation’s first outing since suffering Euro 2020 heartbreak at the hands of Italy earlier this week.

A tricky trip to the Puskas Arena in Hungary eventually saw the visitors emerge on the right side of a 4-0 scoreline, courtesy of strikes from Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Declan Rice.

This guided the Three Lions to a perfect 12 points from 12, well on their way to a spot at next year’s Qatar showpiece.

Lingard’s Ronaldo moment

And, as things stand in London, the flawless qualifying campaign being enjoyed by Southgate’s men only looks set to continue.

With 45 minutes played on Sunday evening, the hosts currently lead Andorra by a goal to nil.

A heavily altered XI, featuring the likes of Jude Bellingham, Conor Coady and even Trent Alexander-Arnold in a midfield berth, has Jesse Lingard’s first goal since 2018 to thank for their advantage.

After the ball dropped kindly to the Manchester United man in the visitors’ area, Lingard made no mistake with a left-footed finish into the bottom corner.

As outlined above, though, it is not the midfielder’s strike itself which has since grabbed the headlines.

Instead, this comes in the form of Lingard’s ensuing celebration.

Much to the delight of Red Devils supporters across the globe, the 28-year-old opted to show some love to new teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, on the back of the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner’s return to Old Trafford last weekend.

In turn, after seeing his 18th-minute effort nestle in the net, Lingard wheeled away towards the corner flag, before busting out Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siu’ celebration, featuring a personal touch:
