Jarrad Branthwaite matches unwanted Wayne Rooney record during Everton vs Brentford
Everton are currently locked in Premier League action with Brentford at Goodison Park.
The Toffees headed into the game knowing that a win would all but guarantee their Premier League survival for another campaign after both Burnley and Leeds United dropped points earlier on Sunday.
And Frank Lampard’s side got off to a perfect start when Dominic Calvert-Lewin stabbed home an Everton free-kick:

Things quickly went south for the Merseysiders, however, as, just eight minutes after taking the lead, Jarrad Branthwaite was shown a straight red card for bringing down Brentford’s Ivan Toney who was through on goal:

After being given his marching orders on the day, it has been revealed that Branthwaite has matched a rather unwanted record.
As per Opta, Jarrad Branthwaite is the first teenager to receive a red card in a Premier League game for Everton since a 17-year-old Wayne Rooney in December 2002 against Birmingham.

It also means that the defender will miss Everton’s final two games of the 2021/22 season, which are at home to Crystal Palace on May 19th and then away to Arsenal on May 22nd.
