James Rodriguez makes selection prediction for himself ahead of Everton’s meeting with Southampton
James Rodriguez’s Everton stint
James Rodriguez joined Everton in September of 2020 from Real Madrid.
The move, at the time, was viewed as something of a coup for the Toffees, who were no doubt excited to have the Colombian once again honing his craft under decorated boss, Carlo Ancelotti.
And Rodriguez enjoyed a solid start to his Everton career, notching five goals and seven assists in his first 18 games:

However, the midfielder’s form dipped off somewhat in the second half of 2020/21, in part due to fitness issues.
In turn, since Carlo Ancelotti’s departure for Real Madrid, and Rafael Benitez being installed as the Italian’s replacement, Rodriguez’s future at Goodison Park has been called into question.
It was claimed last month that Everton could sell six senior players amid Benitez’s rebuild, with Rodriguez named as one who could be moved on.
Rodriguez to miss out vs Southampton?
Rodriguez has since been fairly heavily involved in Everton’s pre-season this summer.
However, with the Premier League campaign now getting underway this weekend, the Colombian dropped a hint over his potential selection for the Toffees’ opening bout.
Everton will host Southampton at Goodison Park at 3:00 PM UK time on Saturday, August 14th.
Ahead of the tie, Rodriguez was speaking on his Twitch channel. And when doing so, he suggested he was not likely to be involved against the Saints:
“There is a game on Saturday, but I don’t think I will play.”
Rodriguez also spoke briefly about his future:
“Anything can happen between now and the end of the month, soccer always changes fast .”
