Insight into William Saliba’s Arsenal future as starlet impresses in Marseilles
Saliba impresses in France
William Saliba was once again sent out on loan by Arsenal this summer, this time to Ligue 1 side Marseilles (after successful loan spells with St Etienne and OGC Nice).
The young defender has begun brightly, impressing in a Marseilles side that has yet to lose a game, and currently sit in third place, with a game in hand on Angers who sit above them. In their most recent encounter, Saliba was a shining light, helping them to a 2-0 shutout against Champions League outfit Monaco.

The hosts undone by an assured and well-drilled OM side with a clear plan – Jorge Sampaoli’s imprint clear to see now. Baba Dieng’s double secures the three points, Amine Harit and William Saliba in particular impressive.

Of course, with Arsenal’s poor start to the season, it has left many questioning as to why he was loaned out in the first place, but he is certainly set to play every minute of every game for the Ligue 1 outfit, something that could not be guaranteed in north London this season.
Football.London outline Arsenal’s Saliba plans
With two years left on his contract come this summer, and no extension talks at present or before leaving the club on loan, many have been quick to question Saliba’s Arsenal future. However, football.London reporter Chris Wheatley clarified the situation during a Q&A, saying:
“I haven’t heard anything about Saliba asking to be sold.
The plan would be for him to come back to Arsenal next summer and a decision will be made on whether he’s offered a new contract or not. Expecting talks to begin towards the end of his loan spell at Marseille.”
It seems then, from this update, that Arsenal do have plans for William Saliba despite the signing of Ben White this summer. Could we see a back three returned to if the Frenchman can prove himself?
