India PS5 Restock: PlayStation 5 Pre-Orders Go Live February 22

Sony is gearing up for another PS5 restock this month. The company confirmed in a press release that the next batch of pre-orders for the current-gen PlayStation console in India are set to go live on Wednesday, February 22 at 12 p.m. Pre-bookings will be open for bundles and standalone units, especially versions equipped with a 4K Bluray disc player. This is the second PS5 restock this month, following the February 7 pre-order event – the second time such an anomaly has occurred since the PS5’s initial launch in India. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to global chip shortages around the world, reducing the chances of picking up a PS5, although now it looks like things are headed in a positive direction.

At CES 2023 earlier this year, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan announced that gamers should have a much “much easier time” finding a PS5 from local retailers. While its implications for the Indian market were unclear at the time, many brick-and-mortar stores and even the Mumbai Comic-Con event had enough stock for purchase – both the console and accessories, separately. . According to gaming analyst Rishi Alwani, there’s even a dedicated PS5 booth for all three days India gaming fair, which also sees Riot Games – the creators of League of Legends and Valorant – participate this year. The event runs till February 18 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Going back to February 22 restock, pre-order banners/ads are still not available on online storefronts, but the press release mentions that new PS5 stock will go live for pre-order on Amazon, Croma, Flipkart, GamesTheShop, Reliance Digital, ShopatSC and Vijay Sales.

PS5 prices skyrocketed in November, with the larger disc variant now costing Rs. 54,990, while the digital edition comes in at Rs. 44,990. This represents a 12.5 and 10% increase, respectively. In a blog post in August last year, Sony attributed rising prices in some markets, including Asia-Pacific, to the global economic environment and high inflation rates.

As of this writing, the Sony Center PS5 store page simply allows you to enter your details to be notified when stock is available. Delivery details have also not been updated since the last restock, which indicated that orders should start shipping by February 21. It also has a delay warning based on lockdown/curfew restrictions in some regions. Buying choices were limited recently, but earlier this month Sony India broke the mold by offering two alternatives to choose from – a God of War Ragnarök pack, priced at Rs. 59,390 and a standalone unit equipped a record player for Rs. 54,990.
