A parliamentary panel has recommended that the Union Home Office encourage state governments to identify cyber hotspots in their state and maintain a data profile of cybercrimes occurring in those hotspots.

The Parliamentary Home Affairs Standing Committee headed by BJP MP Brijlal noted that it believes that despite the boom in internet connectivity in the country, there may be a large population in various states and union territories who could have very limited access to it due to various reasons.

“The committee recommends that the department encourage state governments to identify cyber hotspots in their state and maintain a data profile of cybercrimes occurring in those hotspots and the actions taken to contain those crimes,” the group said in a statement. its report submitted to Parliament. This data, the panel said, can be collected by the “Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C)” and shared with other states for the development of policies by them to combat these types of cybercrimes.

The committee therefore recommended that the police force adopt various strategies such as publicizing its achievements at community, village and district committee meetings at regular intervals to increase the interaction between the police and the people, organizing awareness weeks and Jan Sabhas, among others. Emphasis should be placed on a national capacity building campaign, with emphasis on the development and inculcation of high professional and ethical standards as well as behavioral and social skills of staff, he noted. .

The committee noted that states and union territories have been asked to install IP cameras at strategic locations in all police stations and to conduct periodic audit of all installed CCTV cameras.

The committee further notes that the Department of Law and Justice has been approached to advise states and union territories on the installation of CCTV in district courts. The panel said it would like to be updated on the status of action taken by states and union territories in this matter.
