How Raphael Varane could end up costing Man United over £30m more than Ben White costs Arsenal
Varane vs White
After the summer window slammed shut earlier this week, Arsenal were confirmed to have been the biggest spenders from the Premier League.
As per Sky Sports, the Gunners would spend around £156m on transfers, with Man United behind them in 2nd place with around £133m spent:

Arsenal’s business, for many fans, has not been anywhere near as good as United’s.
This does make sense on the surface as United would bring in three seriously quality talents with so much experience in the former of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Arsenal, meanwhile, brought six relatively unknown/ unproven talents for more than the Red Devils paid for Champions League, World Cup and European Championship-winning talents.
Varane likely to cost Man United around £100m
This has led to some people poking fun at Arsenal and the prices they paid for players, particularly the £50m for White when Varane cost £34m:

The reality of the situation, however, likely means that Man United’s move for Varane will cost them much more in the long run.
As per The Athletic, White earns around £80,000 per week with bonuses, while Varane’s salary at United is at least £300,000 per week.
And, according to them, that means over the next four years, including Varane’s £34m fee, the defender could cost Man United a gross total of £100m.
White, on the other hand, would cost Arsenal closer to £67m.
And, in four years, Varane will be 32 and White 27, with the latter likely to have a much higher resale value than an ageing Varane.
