How much Tottenham will pay Nuno Espirito Santo revealed after sacking

Nuno’s short stay in the capital

Portuguese boss Nuno Espirito Santo lasted just ten Premier League games in charge of Tottenham, with the 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester United proving the final nail in the coffin for the Lilywhite hierarchy.

In a statement, the club said:

The Club can today announce that Nuno Espírito Santo and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have been relieved of their duties.

Fabio Paratici, Managing Director, Football, said: “I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision.

“Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.”

It has been a rollercoaster ride for the Spurs fans, who saw Santo claim manager of the month in August thanks to three straight wins, but have been slowly dropping down the Premier League table in the weeks since.

Now, as per widespread reports, Antonio Conte is set to replace Nuno at the helm.

Nuno’s pay-off revealed

The Athletic revealed last month that there was a loophole in Nuno Espirito Santo’s contract which meant that Tottenham could sack him for free in the summer.

However, they have obviously opted to sack him early, meaning that they will have to pay out his entire contract, believed to be 7 million pounds per year.

As a result, the club will have to pay him 14 million pounds in order to terminate his contract, working out at 1.4 million pounds per Premier League game, or 1.75 million pounds per win across all competitions.

With Jose Mourinho’s payout still ongoing too, to the tune of 15 million pounds, it has been an expensive few months for the Lilywhites.
