How Manchester City and Liverpool away fans trolled Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during Carabao Cup fourth round ties

Liverpool humiliate Manchester United

If Sunday’s clash with Liverpool had been a boxing match, the referee would have called it off at half time.

By that point, Jurgen Klopp’s side had put four goals past a hapless and hopeless Manchester United side, in front of a stunned Old Trafford crowd.

But, it was not a boxing match, and so the torture continued for the Red Devils. Mohamed Salah completed his hat-trick and made it five in the process, before Paul Pogba saw red for an awful challenge on Naby Keita, who had to be stretchered off the pitch.

Liverpool took their foot off the throat of the opposition for the final half-hour, which in many ways was even more disrespectful than scoring more would have been. They knew Manchester United were not a threat.

While Solskjaer was bullish in his post-match interview, it has since emerged that his job was on the line as a consequence of the humiliation, but he is thought to have three games in which to save it.

Rival fans make the most of the chaos

It is safe to say that while Manchester United fans are less than happy with their current predicament, rival fans are far more jovial about the situation. Chants pleading for Ole to remain in charge rang around the Liverpool away end at Old Trafford during the tie, and have not stopped since.

As reported by those watching, “Ole’s at the wheel” could be heard ringing through the away end of Deepdale, where Liverpool were taking on Preston North End.

Additionally, they could be heard at the other end of the country too, where West Ham hosted Manchester City at the Olympic Stadium.

With Ole’s reputation on the floor, can he do anything to stop the ship sinking?
