How James Milner made Luis Diaz feel welcome ahead of Liverpool debut

How new Liverpool signing Luis Diaz was made to feel welcome ahead of his debut has been revealed.

Diaz would make his Liverpool debut on Sunday afternoon.

The winger, signed from FC Porto at the end of January, came off the bench in the second half of the club’s win over Cardiff.

The Colombian had an almost instant impact, pressing Cardiff’s defence before nicking the ball and slotting across goal for Takumi Minamino to tap in Liverpool’s second of the day:

Before the game, meanwhile, The Athletic have revealed that during the pre-match warm up at Anfield yesterday, James Milner ensured Diaz was made to feel part of the group as he laughed and motioned towards the newcomer, urging him to work faster.

Then, with kick-off approaching, the Liverpool players headed back to the dressing room and reserve goalkeeper Adrian, who like Diaz speaks Spanish, escorted the new signing in and would take up a seat next to him on the bench as well.

How often will Luis Diaz feature for Liverpool?

Diaz probably could not have asked for a better Liverpool debut.

Now though, the African Cup of Nations is over and Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are set to return to the club.

This leaves Diaz was a serious fight on his hands for any sort of regular football, especially now we are getting to the business end of the season and every match is a huge one in all competitions.
