How Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale stacks up against Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy

Arsenal blank Leicester City thanks to Aaron Ramsdale

Mikel Arteta’s young guns at Arsenal continued their hot form this weekend when they traveled to the King Power Stadium to clash with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City outfit, and came away with all three points in the lunchtime kick-off after keeper Aaron Ramsdale produced another wonderful display in goal for the Gunners.

Arsenal eventually bested the Foxes to the tune of a 2-0 win which was their fifth in their last-seven Premier League fixturs (5-2-0), and at the time of writing, temporarily has seen Arteta’s youthful side climb up to fifth in the league.

Despite beginning the season 0-0-3 in what had many fans feeling was the beginning of the end of the Arteta regime, Arsenal has responded exceptionally well and much of that can be owed to Ramsdale, who is far and away the unquestioned first-choice keeper at the Emirates after quickly relegating former number one Bernd Leno into a deputy role.

According to Opta, after his performance today, only Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy enjoys a higher save percentage than Ramsdale in the league for keepers that have faced more than two shots on target during the campaign.

England keeper proving his worth at the Emirates

Aaron Ramsdale is so much more to Arsenal than the mouth-dropping save he made today against Leicester that drew high praise from all corners of the football world.

Though his purchase was heavily criticized in the summer after the Gunners splashed roughly £30million to prize him away from Sheffield United, many felt that Ramsdale was overpriced and not good enough for a club of Arsenal’s size.

To say that he is proving his detractors wrong would be a massive understatement, but beyond his exceptional shot stopping ability, Ramsdale allows Arsenal to play how Mikel Arteta intended. Not only can the Stoke-native help build play from the back, but he has shown a high aptitude at being able to beat the press by bypassing the midfield and setting free the Arsenal forward line quickly.

Still just 23-years-old, Ramsdale has his whole career ahead of him and many in the Arsenal fanbase will be hopeful to see him ply his trade in north London for years to come.
