Here are the 7 awkward reasons to get married
“Marriage is the end goal of any relationship. It completes you.” You may have heard these words from your family, friends and acquaintances a thousand times.
So, you are more or less convinced that you should leave no stone unturned to reach that end goal. But wait, are you sure these platitudes are sufficient reasons for you to get married?
Are you sure you aren’t getting married for the wrong reasons? Here are some specious arguments that you should never fall for while thinking about settling down:
1. My biological clock is ticking
When it comes to having a baby, one doesn’t always need to race with time. There are several birth methods that people are now increasingly resorting to. For instance, instead of getting anxious about the biological clock, one can think of freezing eggs.
2. All my friends are getting married
So? They must have their own reasons for getting married. One size doesn’t fit all. Thinking of getting married just because your friends have done so can be best described as caving in to peer pressure. Or you can call it herd mentality.
3. All the good guys will be gone soon
Well, that’s quite an apocalyptic vision. The human race isn’t perishing now, so chill. Wait for the guy who seems right for you.
4. What will neighbors/family say
If you are fine with your neighbours and relatives running your life, then go ahead and listen to them. But, if you feel that they have no business passing judgment on your singlehood, we are with you.
5. My parents will be relieved of their responsibility
In other words, you think your parents consider you as a burden? That’s primitive thinking. Wake up, this is 21st century.
6. Marriage is a tradition
Ask yourself, is that a sufficient reason for getting married? Would you really like it if your family forces you to get hitched just in the name of tradition? Think.
7. Married couples are better parents
Is this assumption research backed? Has it been proven that married couples make better parents than single parents? Marital status alone can’t make you an exemplary parent – one should count other factors such as stability at home, proper support system, love, warmth and admirable parenting techniques.
