“Have Missed a Lot” – Andy Murray on Playing In Front of Big Crowds at Wimbledon Championships

Veteran tennis star Andy Murray has said he can’t wait to play before a big crowd at Wimbledon again.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Championships this year, the former No.1 said he is delighted to be back competing on the lawns again, adding it wasn’t fun watching all the action from the sidelines during his frustrating injury spells.

The three-time Grand Slam champion added that playing before a full house or something close to it is what he has missed all this time and is dying to be back in the thick of action again.

“For me personally, I’m delighted that I can be back competing here again. I’m most excited about being in front of a big crowd, the fans and everything. It’s really something that I have missed a lot,” Murray said.

The Wimbledon will give Murray the first taste of Grand Slam action since his return to the US Open last year.

His campaign at the Flushing Meadows, however, was cut short in the second round as he went down to Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

His progress post the US Open exit was hampered by fresh injury concerns which kept him out of play till the end of the season.

The Briton was physically in shape to return at this year’s Australian Open but unfortunately came down with COVID-19 weeks before the tournament.

Though Murray recovered in time for the action at Melbourne Park, he had to eventually skip out as he couldn’t come to a quarantine arrangement with the organizers.

He returned at Rotterdam but crashed out in the last-16 stage after losing in straight sets to eventual champion Andrey Rublev.

The Briton had to skip some events thereafter too, as his wife Kim Sears gave birth to their fourth child.

The two-time Wimbledon champion entered the doubles draw at the Italian Open in line for a return to All England.

He won his comeback match against Frenchman Benoit Paire on his return at the Queen’s Club Championships but lost to eventual champion Matteo Berrettini in the last 16.

Murray will open his Wimbledon campaign against big-hitting Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili.
