Has Ralph Rangnick already told Manchester United who their next three signings should be?

Has Ralph Rangnick already told Manchester United who their next three signings should be?

Rangnick takes charge at Old Trafford

Manchester United today announced that Ralph Rangnick would be taking interim charge of the club until the summer, with a further two years in a consultancy role afterwards.

Rangnick replaces Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm, although it is unclear at present whether he will be in the dugout for Thursday’s clash with Arsenal, or whether he will have to wait until the weekend for his managerial bow with the Red Devils.

Although the German has already spoken of a squad “full of talent”, he will certainly be overseeing some form of overhaul at the club in the next two and a half years.

Has he already told Manchester United who to target?

Rangnick reveals four potential transfer targets

Speaking to The Athletic’s Raphael Honigstein in September 2020, Rangnick was quizzed on who he thought the breakthrough talents were in the Bundesliga.

Beyond the obvious talent of Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham was also mentioned, with the new United boss saying:

He’s an absolute top player; one of the best. I have rarely seen a 17-year-old playing at such a level. We scouted him for 18 months at RB. He’s simply extraordinary.

Of course, Bellingham has gone on to prove his quality at the very top level, and has made his England debut, meaning that any fee for the 18 year-old would likely have to be in triple figures, something Manchester United may not be able to countenance.

So, who else? Well, Rangnick names an RB Leipzig trio as his next set of players to watch saying:

“Amadou Haidara, Ibrahima Konate and Tyler Adams are all top level and will show that.”

Konate has, of course, already joined Liverpool so is unlikely to be available, least of all to Manchester United.

However, both Adams and Haidara offer interesting options for Manchester United. Crucially, the pair and Bellingham all operate in the centre of midfield, an area where Manchester United desperately need reinforcements. Adams has a rumoured release clause of 34 million pounds, and could also deputise at right-back when necessary.

Haidara, meanwhile, has also impressed in the middle of the park for the Bulls in the Bundesliga since the interview, and has made 12 appearances thus far this season, 10 of which came from the off.

Could we see any of the three arrive at Old Trafford in January or in the summer?
