Harry Potter TV Series Announced With Seven-Season Order, JK Rowling Becomes Executive Producer

The first Harry Potter TV series is nearing completion, with author JK Rowling serving as executive producer, Warner Bros. announced Wednesday. Discovery.

Rowling recently faced charges of transphobia for emphasizing biological sex over gender identity in comments about trans women. She denies the charge.

Warner Bros. Discovery said the series will be “a faithful adaptation” of Rowling’s witchy boy books and will air on the entertainment company’s rebranded Max streaming service.

The announcement confirms recent speculation that an episode-based show about the wizarding world of Hogwarts was in the works.

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I look forward to being a part of this new adaptation that will allow for a degree of depth and detail only offered by a long-running television series,” said Rowling said. in a report.

Warner Bros. Discovery said the stories from each of the books would become “a decade-long series” featuring a new cast. No schedule was given for the filming of the show.

At a press conference, Max’s chief content officer Casey Bloys declined to comment when asked if Rowling’s comments about trans people would make it harder to find actors for the show.

The Scottish writer has been plagued by threats and controversy since publicly challenging in 2020 the use of the trans-inclusive phrase “menstruating” in place of the word “women”.

“Obviously the story of ‘Harry Potter’ is incredibly affirming and positive and about love and self-acceptance. That’s our priority – what’s on screen,” Variety said in the quoting.
