Harry Kane replacement? Tottenham interested in Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins
Tottenham are interested in Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, according to reports in Spain.
Ollie Watkin’s Aston Villa stint
Ollie Watkins would sign for Aston Villa in September of 2020. The forward was brought in to add some much-needed firepower to Dean Smith’s side’s attack.
And despite having zero Premier League experience to his name at the time, Watkins set Villa back around £30m.
Watkins would go on to enjoy a solid breakout season in the English top-flight.
All told, in 40 games across all competitions, the 25-year-old would net 16 and assist five for Villa.
Watkin’s superb debut season even saw him earn a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England side, being called up in both March and June of 2021, scoring one goal in the process.
Tottenham eye Ollie Watkins
Watkins would then miss the start of the current season through injury and, in his last three starts for Villa, has failed to find the net or provide an assist.
This may have something to do with Villa signing Danny Ings over the summer and Watkins now not being the main focal point of the Midlands-based outfit’s attack.
Regardless of his slow start to 2021/22, though, Watkins still appears to be attracting the attention of a top club.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham director Fabio Paratici wants to reinforce the centre-forward spot as they currently only have Harry Kane in that position, and there are still doubts over the forward’s future beyond this season.
And one of the names on the list of options being looked at by Tottenham is said to be Ollie Watkins.
No potential fee is mentioned in the report, which also claims that Villa have been characterized as a complicated club to negotiate with.
