Google’s new Pixel 7 and 7 Pro smartphones, as well as the Pixel 6a released earlier last year, still lack 5G support in India, even though they are officially sold there. In Google’s defense, Apple only recently updated its 5G-enabled phones to support the Indian network, as did Samsung. Still, the search giant is falling a bit behind.

In an official statement sent to us, Google assures that an OTA update enabling 5G will arrive in the first quarter of 2023. The original timeline for this was December, but Google clearly missed it.

In the release, the company says it is working closely with Indian carriers to enable next-generation connectivity and comply with local regulations and standards. Xiaomi is also working on an update as it has many 5G-enabled handsets in India.
