Google Voice to alert users with a "Suspected Spam Caller" warning for suspicious calls

Google Voice will now make it easier for a user to ignore spam calls with the release of a new update. Google has now added a warning to its voice feature that will alert the user with the label “Suspected unwanted caller” on calls that may sound suspicious. The user can also remove a number from the spam list by simply marking a call as not spam. Enhanced Secure Calling comes on top of Google Voice’s recent addition of Wi-Fi and cellular network switching.

According to a recent announcement from the tech giant, Google Voice will now protect its users from unwanted calls and potentially dangerous scams by displaying a red “suspect spam caller” label on all calls that appear suspicious. The selection of numbers as spam will be done using advanced artificial intelligence.

A number’s spam tag will be displayed on the caller screen as well as in the call history. The user will have the choice to let a call remain spam or to delete it by confirming the identity of the number as spam or a genuine contact. In the event that the number is confirmed to be spam, future calls from that particular contact will go straight to voicemail. Meanwhile, deleting a number from the spam list will not show any warnings on future calls.

Google informed that the feature’s gradual rollout began on December 29 and may take up to 15 days for the feature to appear on Google Voice. It will eventually be available to all Google Voice users.

The suspected spam label will be automatically enabled if the voice spam filter is disabled. To automatically send a suspected spam call to voicemail, go to Settings > Security > Filter Spam > Enable.
