Google Meet is rolling out 360-degree background support to Android and iOS devices

Google Meet has finally rolled out 360-degree backgrounds to Android and iOS devices. With the new feature, users can choose from several available backgrounds. Users can now apply these effects while participating in a Google Meet call on their smartphone. The feature has rolled out to Android and iOS devices for all Google Workspace users and those with personal Google accounts. Additionally, the company has introduced editable widgets for Chat app cards that allow developers to use interactive widgets such as checkboxes, radio buttons, and dropdowns.

According to a Google blog post, users will now be able to use 360-degree backgrounds while participating in a video call on their mobile. The feature has been rolled out to all Android and iOS devices. Google said in their blog post that this feature uses the smartphone’s gyroscope or orientation data to work, thereby moving the background as the user moves their head. Users can choose the background from multiple options available in Google Meet.

Google Meet’s 360-degree background on smartphones is currently available to all Google Workspace users and those using personal Google Accounts. Although the background can hide the user’s original background from meeting participants, it should be noted that administrators can disable these backgrounds if necessary.

Besides the mobile background, Google has shared another update for its workspace. It introduced editable widgets for Chat app cards which allow developers to use interactive widgets such as checkboxes, radio buttons and dropdowns. The feature will allow users to edit information such as changing the recipient name or moving the due date for any task.

A few days ago, Google extended support for adding captions to video recordings on the video conferencing service. Google Meet’s translated captioning feature was introduced last year, but it was limited to live meetings. However, the feature is now available for video recordings to help Google Meet users overcome language barriers and disabilities while accessing recorded meetings.
