Google Fi gets another name change, it’s now called Google Fi Wireless

Google Fi is now called Google Fi Wireless after a third name change in the MVNO service’s eight-year history. To celebrate the new name, Google is adding smartwatch connectivity, a one-week eSIM trial, and a refreshed app to make it easier to browse plans.

Wireless plans will now support not only the Pixel Watch, but also the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series. Support for all smart wearables extends to the Unlimited plan, where previously it was only available on Unlimited Plus and Flexible. Devices can stay connected without a phone at no additional cost.

Adding a new line to any plan will give a free phone – a choice of Samsung Galaxy A14, Pixel 6A or Moto G Power. However, the phones are expected to remain as part of the plan for the next 24 months and the value of the device will be refunded via bill credits each month. Early deactivation means you have to pay the price of the phone, depending on how much time is left.

The Google Fi Wireless app is more family-friendly, allowing the owner to limit who can call or text children in the same group. The redesigned app is still rolling out and should be available to all users in the coming months.
