Gen-AI and the ensuing computational human whisper
Generative AI is a category of artificial intelligence that uses algorithms to create things like literature, graphics, music, and language models.
Gen-AI has been burning the news lately and promises to change computing. ChatGPT is the current star of this category, but Google is launching a challenger because ChatGPT scared them. They are hardly alone.
While there is much concern that this technology will take jobs away from humans, the types of jobs it will primarily eliminate, at least initially, are jobs that people often don’t like to do.
Moreover, this is part of the anticipated evolution of computers from glorified calculators to something like working peers, and it changes the critical dynamic. Rather than having to learn to work with computers, generative AI-based computers will increasingly learn to work with humans.
Until this evolution reaches critical mass, when computers can fully function as equals to humans – probably as they rush ahead of us in development, as the speed of machines outstrips the evolution of thousands of magnitudes – we will need AI whisperer skills. It sounds a lot like today’s need for people who know how to work best with computers or who have learned Boolean logic to work more effectively with search engines.
Let’s talk about this development this week. Then we’ll end with my product of the week, a new mechanical keyboard I tried out that just needs one more thing to be perfect.
Connecting Gen-AI to humans
Traditionally, a “whisperer” refers to someone who knows how best to work and communicate with an animal. They are scholars who seem able to get inside the heads of the animals they work with and train animals that seem untrainable.
They use verbal and non-verbal methods that seem magical to those who watch them and form a bond of trust with animals that seemed impossible to owners, and the whisperer can transfer that bond to owners at the end of the process.
True whisperers seem to come by their skills naturally. They’re wired differently than the rest of us, and just like scholars in other fields, I guess they often don’t get along with people very well.
Unlike animals with abuse, health, or mental issues that generate fear of humans, generative AIs will be relatively stable, although they vary widely depending on their programming.
However, understanding how to direct them to the desired outcome will be no less difficult because, unlike animals, we will ask AIs to perform far more complex tasks than sitting, staying or coming to us on command. We will ask AIs to write scripts, articles and novels, create new products and execute military commands.
We also know that generative AIs currently lack empathy, although some are working to not only fix this but also use them to teach humans how to be empathetic. As those who have worked in IT already know, the big problem today with generative AI is that users don’t know what they want, so they can’t very well issue a query that a Generative AI can run efficiently.
AI whisperers will be the bridge between generative AI and the human user. The whisperer understands what the AI needs to hear and can better translate what it wants into a command that more effectively directs the AI to complete the task. Scale will immediately become an issue because, like animal whisperers, AI whisperers will initially be rare and difficult to identify.
AI-powered human whisperers
Just as we created generative AI and trained it on materials to perform an increasing variety of tasks, the bottleneck is that people just aren’t good communicators. Since generative AIs can progress at machine speed and gain consistency over time, it’s the human side of this problem that will need more work.
The final step in the development of generative AIs will be the creation of AI-powered human whisperers. These AIs are explicitly trained to learn what humans want. Their unique methods of communication, both verbal and non-verbal, can motivate or manipulate humans to complete the necessary task of thinking deeply about their requests – often providing mock commentary and historical perspective to avoid mistakes that arise. would otherwise produce – to speed up and increase the quality of the whole process.
Since they can be trained through the transfer of digital knowledge, these human-whispering AIs can evolve and will be able to complete the bridge between people and machines, finally offering a glimpse of the full potential of true human synergy. -IA.
Generative AI is a game changer that will help eliminate repetitive tasks and even much of the drudgery when writing a long article, article or book.
It will work better as a human enhancement tool rather than a human replacement tool, as its creativity is derivative and lacks empathy, which means it will do many socially unacceptable things on purpose without supervision. .
Those who are most familiar with this technology will adopt and learn it initially, just like those who have already adopted and learned about mainframes, PCs and Boolean logic.
We should see AI whisperers emerge initially as a bridge between these AIs and people who have not yet learned to think things through and formulate their requests properly.
Eventually, they will be replaced by AI-driven human whisperers, allowing technology to advance faster and address related communication issues on a large scale.
Computers are about to become much more social; we are not quite ready for that yet.

If you write a lot, like me, nothing beats a great keyboard. For me, a mechanical keyboard is much better than the cheaper chicklet-style keyboards on most laptops and desktops.
I like a longer fingerboard, solid feel, and the fact that mechanical keyboards last longer than their cheap counterparts.
The Das Keyboard 6 Professional is more suitable for writers and computer programmers than for gamers. Still, it would make a decent gaming keyboard, given that it’s mechanically ergonomic and you can control your PC volume with a handy on-device volume button. However, there are better boards for games that look more spectacular.
This keyboard is for the office, home or business. It has illuminated keys (with an on-off switch) which is handy if you work at night, as well as all the media controls.
Many of us like to listen to music or podcasts while working, and the ability to manage this content with dedicated keys is very useful. You can also tap the volume control to mute the speakerphone, but it’s missing one feature: a microphone mute button for video calls, which those of us who work from home badly need.
Das Keyboard 6 Pro has a handy sleep button which, if you don’t have user detection (a feature that suspends your PC when you walk away from it), is a great way to reassure your kids. or your colleagues. Don’t mess up your stuff if you leave your desk.
I found the keys a bit sticky at first, but that dissipated within the first 15 minutes, and it’s now the keyboard I use for most of my work. I just wish there was a microphone mute button.
It comes in two versions: one with softer switches and the one I got which is a bit more clicky. I like the clicky version, but if you’re in an office, your co-workers might prefer you to make the quieter choice.
A great keyboard improves productivity, reduces errors and hand stress, and creates a more enjoyable work experience. As a result, the Das Keyboard 6 Professional, which sells for $199, is my product of the week.
