Although the latest Samsung Galaxy S series phones have yet to report such issues, malicious attackers have been seen in the past performing such attacks.

According to a report from PhoneArena, Samsung has confirmed the introduction of Smasung Message Guard in its latest Samsung Galaxy S23 series, which includes the vanilla Galaxy S23, premium Galaxy S23 Plus, and high-end Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphones. The preemptive security feature prevents attackers from exploiting images without clicking, which could give the attacker access and control over messages, the gallery, and even extremely sensitive user information like personal information. connection to banking applications.

However, the report mentions that Samsung insists on calling it a pre-emptive feature, as no cases of clickless exploits have been reported on its Galaxy smartphones so far.

Samsung Message Guard will use a sandboxed environment to simulate receiving the image while checking whether it could contain potentially dangerous or malicious code that could be exploited by an attacker. The virtual quarantine would allow the system to detect any danger residing in the image components and neutralize it to prevent serious damage to the user’s smartphone or the sensitive data stored on it.

The feature is pre-enabled and therefore users would not be required to perform any further steps in order to protect their phones against such potential no-click exploits, the report added.

Currently, the feature is supported on the Samsung Messages and Messages by Google apps. However, the South Korean conglomerate is expected to update the security feature to be compatible with third-party messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram and others in the future.
