Funds boost for Arsenal? Pair of suitors – including London rivals – emerge for Reiss Nelson

The latest speculation doing the rounds in the media this week suggests that out-of-favour Arsenal man Reiss Nelson is a man in demand.

Gunners struggles

21-year-old winger Nelson is of course fresh off the back of another trying campaign in North London.

After beginning to remind Gunners supporters of his unquestionable talents over the closing months of the 2019/20 season, it was hoped that Nelson would subsequently kick on this time around, to establish himself as a viable attacking option under Mikel Arteta.

To say that such hopes fell flat, however, would be putting it lightly.

Amid competition from the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Willian and fellow youngsters Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, the Arsenal youth product was restricted to a paltry two Premier League appearances across the entire season.

Such struggles, in turn, have inevitably seen speculation begin to spread in the media that Nelson’s stint in the English capital could be set to come to an end this summer, with consistent game-time of course integral at such a delicate point in a player’s development.

Selhurst switch?

And, if Mikel Arteta and co. do, in the end, opt to sanction a departure for their young winger, it does not look like they will be short on suitors.

As reiterated online on Thursday, Crystal Palace, long tipped as a potential landing spot, remain keen on Nelson’s signature.

The Eagles are understood to be ‘leading the race’ for the wide-man, albeit with Patrick Vieira and co. eyeing only a loan deal. Such a move would be complicated by the fact that, as things stand, Nelson’s Arsenal contract is due to expire next summer.

Palace, however, are far from the only side hopeful of swinging a deal for the Gunners’ struggling attacker.

As per a report from German outlet 90PLUS, Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin have also positioned themselves firmly in the race for Nelson’s services.

Those in a position of power at the Olympiastadion were evidently left impressed by the Englishman’s displays during his previous stint in Germany, with Hoffenheim, meaning a return to the country cannot be ruled out.

The capital outfit, meanwhile, could well gazump Palace’s offer, with it added that Hertha are not against the idea of a permanent deal.
