FPL ramifications: Brendan Rodgers provides latest on Castagne & Barnes ahead of Wolves

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has, on Thursday, provided a late fitness update on his squad.

Back in action

The Foxes will of course join their 19 Premier League counterparts in getting their respective domestic campaigns underway this weekend.

Rodgers and co. face a meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers, in a 3pm kick-off at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Leicester are set to head into not only their opener, but the campaign as a whole, desperate to kick on from the heartbreak of the last two seasons, both of which saw the East Midlands outfit fall at the final hurdle in their pursuit of a top-4 berth.

The board at the King Power, though, to their credit, have done a fine job of reinforcing the club’s squad to this point in the summer.

All of Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumare and Ryan Bertrand have made their way to the King Power over the last month, ahead of what could prove to be an altogether fruitful season to come.

Foxes latest

As outlined above, though, on Thursday, Brendan Rodgers has provided fitness updates on some of the more long-standing members of his squad.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Leicester’s fast-approaching meeting with Wolves, the club’s boss was first drawn on the wellbeing of Timothy Castagne, who picked up an eye injury amid his endeavours with Belgium at the European Championships:

‘We’re just going to make a final decision on Timothy tomorrow (Friday). He’s trained well this week. He’s obviously been doing physical preparation work without joining in with the squad and then, this week, he’s joined in.’

‘He’s got his mask now that he feels comfortable in and he’s virtually done everything that he would want and we would want to see to participate in the game, so we’ll have a chat tomorrow after training, just to see how he feels, and then we’ll take from there.’

Next up was an update on Jonny Evans, who, as expected, looks set to remain on the sidelines until after the international break:

‘Jonny was out on the pitch today. The plan for him was always after the international break. He’s out doing multidirectional work and we’re just assessing the pain of that. The timeline for him is after the international break.’

Finally, on wide-man Harvey Barnes, Rodgers concluded:

‘He’s such a huge player for us. He’s obviously not up to speed physically as of yet but just to have him back… he just gives you such a threat. He did really well last weekend and day by day, he’s getting physically better.’
