FPL injury updates
As part of our extensive FPL coverage, we will be bringing you weekly injury news roundups that will cover all the popular FPL assets.
So, with gameweek 1 now upon us, here are all of the latest updates on your favourite FPL stars.
Watkins & Buendia updates
We start at Aston Villa, home to some very popular choices this year.
Ollie Watkins became a fan favourite after his impressive 2020/21, whilst new signing Emi Buendia looks to be a great budget midfield option this year.
However, there is mixed news on the pair ahead of GW1. Watkins, as per Dean Smith on Friday, looks to be something of a doubt for Villa’s meeting with Watford.
Buendia, on the other hand, does look set to be available:
Smith on Ollie Watkins’ fitness: “We are not too sure about Ollie at the moment, if he’s pain-free today then he will train, if not then he won’t be involved tomorrow.”#WATAVL pic.twitter.com/WQCc44oOuc

Smith: “Emi Buendía has had a slight injury but he’s available. He’ll bring the creativity and a spark.”#WATAVL pic.twitter.com/HAoIfTFl1d

Potential Tariq Lamptey return timetable
Ahead of the new season, 4.5m defender Tariq Lamptey also looked set to be a popular pick on FPL this year due to his low price, potential attacking returns and Brighton’s solid defence in 2020/21.
However, as confirmed by Graham Potter on Thursday, Lamptey is likely to be back after the international break:
“Tariq is still doing his rehab. With a bit of luck after the international break, we might see a bit more of him.”
“No fresh injury concerns,” for the Seagulls who will be without: Danny Welbeck, Dan Burn and Tariq Lamptey.

Liverpool defenders update
As always, Liverpool defenders look set to be popular choices on FPL this year.
However, after picking up an injury in pre-season, Andy Robertson is set to miss out vs Norwich in GW1.
Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez look to be available:
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are available: “We just have to make then a decision on who will start, who will come on, things like this and if I think they are ready for 90 minutes. But both look really good. An intense season is coming up. We will see how we decide that.” #LFC

Dominic Calvert-Lewin available
Another FPL favourite following his superb 2020/21 is the 8.0m Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
And whilst he missed Everton’s last outing vs Manchester United, Rafa Benitez has confirmed the Englishman is available this week:
🗣 | The manager confirms Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin are available for #EVESOU, but ‘some players are in isolation’.

Harry Kane could feature vs Man City
Elsewhere, Nuno Espirito Santo hinted in his pre-Manchester City press conference that there is still a chance Harry Kane could be involved vs the Citizens.
But as Kane only joined up with Spurs on Friday, it may be best for you to avoid selecting him.
De Bruyne & Foden out of Tottenham game
Sticking with Spurs vs Man City, Pep Guardiola confirmed in his presser that Kevin De Bruyne is not yet back doing full training sessions and that Phil Foden is still injured.
Jadon Sancho to feature vs Leeds?
Finally, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been speaking about Jadon Sancho.
At 9.5m Sancho could be a serious bargain on FPL this year if he is able to replicate the figures he was producing at Borussia Dortmund over the last few years.
However, one issue with Sancho was whether or not he would actually start vs Leeds.
And unfortunately for FPL fans, OGS would not divulge this information on Friday, simply stating that Sancho would be involved:
“Jadon is going to be involved definitely. Good week but was ill after his holiday.
“He has looked sharper than expected. Can’t tell you if he is going to start though.”
