FPL fans take note: Lionel Scaloni comments suggest Aston Villa & Tottenham stars could miss three games for their clubs

Quarantine issues

The international break is now in full swing, with most sides having played at least one game, including Argentina who beat Venezuela 3-1 on Thursday evening.

Before the international break, a number of Premier League stars were called up to the Argentina squad.

Two of these came from Aston Villa in the form of Emiliano Martinez and Emi Buendia, whilst Tottenham also had Giovani Lo Celso and new signing Cristian Romero named in the squad.

However, Argentina are currently on the UKs red-list.

And as they are playing at home on the 10th, this would have, under the current rules in place across the UK, meant that all four players would be required to self-isolate for 10 days once back in the UK –leading to them missing around three matches.

Tottenham & Villa stars could miss three matches

However, a compromise did look to have been reached between clubs and countries.

Villa confirmed in a statement that Martinez and Buendia would not play in Argentina’s last match on September 10th to allow them to only miss one game for their club.

Tottenham, meanwhile, did not include Argentina’s last game of the break on their schedule for their player’s international matches, suggesting they had the same agreement in place.

Now though, it appears Argentina’s coach has no intention of releasing any players early.

When speaking recently, Lionel Scaloni said that the players there are here to play all three games:

“We gave the list for the three games and there are no doubts about that.

“The players are here to play all three games. We never had a refusal from the clubs. We spoke and reached a conclusion that they had to come.”

This, as per the Daily Mail, could see the quartet miss three games for their clubs in the form of two league clashes and a League Cup tie.
