Moriba fails to make move away from Barcelona count

Former Barcelona academy graduate Ilaix Moriba has failed to make a lasting impression at current club RB Leipzig after his summer move from the Catalan capital and could be set to be shipped out on loan in January.

That report comes via ActuFoot while citing German outlet BILD claiming that the Saxony outfit is willing to listen to loan offers for the Spanish U19 international after he failed to find his footing at Red Bull Arena.

Moriba has barely featured for Die Roten Bullen this campaign, logging just 100-minutes across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League despite the promise he showed last term after breaking into the first-team set up at Barcelona when he made 19-combined appearances across all competitions.

Competition for places in central midfield at Leipzig is stiff, however, with Konrad Laimer, Tyler Adams, Amadou Haidara, and Kevin Kampl all ahead of Moriba in the pecking order. Still just 18-years-old, time is on his side, however, and a loan to secure him first-team minutes is paramount to his development.

Leipzig off the pace in Bundesliga title race

Once Julian Nagelsmann swapped Saxony for Bavaria, it was always going to be difficult for RB Leipzig to sustain their position as a top-three club in the Bundesliga this season, but no one expected the immediate nose-dive that RBL would have taken this term.

New boss Jesse Marsch failed to deliver when he was given a promotion up the chain in Red Bull when he left his posting in Salzburg to take the reigns in the wake of Nagelsmann’s departure, having already been removed from the Red Bull Arena touchline and replaced with former Schalke boss Domenico Tedesco.

Beyond the departure of Nagelsmann and the sales of key center-back duo Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konaté as well as key creative outlet Marcel Sabitzer.

But Leipzig recruited incredibly well in their own right, bringing in André Silva, Josko Gvardiol, Angeliño, Mohamed Simakan, and Benjamin Henrichs apart from Ilaix Moriba. Those purchases were not enough though, and RBL is currently being reminded that having a top-notch squad is not enough if the man leading you from the touchline is not up to the standard.
