Floyd Mayweather Shares Inspirational Message Following Gervonta Davis’ Win Over Mario Barrios

Gervonta Davis secured an iconic win against Mario Barrios. Davis added a new world title in a third weight class by an 11th round stoppage against the 140 lbs champion.

Even though Davis landed the bigger shots and ultimately ended up dominating the fight towards the end, Mario put up a tough challenge.

Barrios maintained distance with his right jab without over-extending through the first four rounds; however, Davis began parrying his jabs in Round 5, which allowed him to close the distance and connect better.

He was tough and it was tough getting to him because he was tall and had a longer reach but as soon as I got to him I got the job done,” Davis agreed Barrios put up a tough fight.

Davis flipped the switch in the second half of the fight by closing the distance and dropping Barrios twice in Round 8. However, Mario Barrios retaliated in the 9th round by taking a central position in the ring and hurting Davis with a left jab.

At the end of the 9th round, Gervonta’s mentor Floyd Mayweather told him, “on the unofficial (scorecard), you’re down.” This concerned Davis and prompted him to step up his game.

With more intent, both went head-to-head into the 10th round; however, Davis rocked Barrios with a couple of big left hooks to the body.

In Round 11, Davis delivered a barrage of jabs to the face and hooks to the body, and one left uppercut dropped Barrios to his knees and elbows.

Only moments later, Davis landed another huge left hook, which prompted the referee to stop the fight immediately. With this, Mario Barrios suffered his first-ever loss, and Gervonta Davis one-upped his winning streak to 25-0, with 24 KOs.
