Five players set to leave Chelsea as Abramovich sanctions begin to bite

leave Chelsea

At least five players will leave Chelsea this summer, as the club begins to grapple with sanctions imposed on owner, Roman Abramovich, according to talkSPORT.

The UK government sanctioned Abramovich on Thursday, and his assets were blocked.

Chelsea has been granted a special permit to continue operations. When the transfer window starts, however, the team will be unable to sell tickets, merchandise, or sign new players.

They will also be unable to negotiate new contracts with current players and staff.

The Blues have four senior players whose contracts are slated to expire at the end of the season.

Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azplicueta, Andreas Christensen and Charly Musonda are the senior players who are entering the final months of their deals.

Saul Niguez’s future also looks to have been decided, with Chelsea now unable to activate the purchase option in his loan deal from Atletico Madrid which expires this summer.
