Fernando Alonso Hilariously Reveals Why He’d ‘Close the Door’ on Alpine F1

Fernando Alonso Hilariously Reveals Why He’d ‘Close the Door’ on Alpine F1

Formula 1 is not the only sport that is making rounds around Europe, but also the UEFA Euro 2020, a football championship, where European countries compete against each other for the title. And of course, most of the F1 drivers have been keeping an eye on the scoresheets including Fernando Alonso.

With the group stage coming to an end earlier on Thursday, the teams are looking forward to the round of 16. And Alonso’s home country, Spain, will be facing Croatia on Monday, a day after the Styrian GP.

However, what’s interesting is that if Spain sees it through Croatia, their next challenge could be the in-form France. And his team, Alpine Renault, will undeniably be rooting for their home team, led by Hugo Lloris.

Hence, Alonso hilariously revealed that he would be watching the game alone if Spain ends up facing France in the quarter-final; This match-up will take place if France beats Switzerland in the yet-to-begin round of 16.

What did Fernando Alonso say?

During the Styrian GP press conference, the Spaniard predicted a 3-0 win for Spain against Croatia. Furthermore, he reckoned that it wouldn’t be easy to watch the possible Spain vs France face-off along with the Alpine racing crew.

3-0! I hope Spain goes through. After that, I guess it’s France. That will be a bit tough, especially in my team – I will have to close the door and watch the game alone,” he said, according to Autosport.

Alonso will be all smiles for the time being following the enthralling performance from Spain during their final group-stage match against Slovakia.

But, of course, the next 1 week could be quite intense for the Spaniard, with his home team inching closer to being the kings of Europe.

Can Alonso excel in Styria and add up to the Spanish success?

Spain has been unstoppable in the Euro 2020 championship, having breezed past the group stage. Similarly, Alonso, who represents Spain in F1, has enjoyed a brilliant couple of weekends at Baku and Le Castellet.

The Spaniard managed to snatch 12 points out of the two races, boosting himself up to P11. And now, amidst his blazing form, the next stop is in Austria, which will be hosting two back-to-back race weekends.

Hence, the expectations are quite high around Alonso. What’s more, both the races could be under wet weather conditions, and his abundant F1 experience could play a handy role in the race under such tricky conditions. Therefore, can Alonso extend his incredible run of form into the approaching race weekends at the Red Bull Ring?
