Fee revealed as Joe Willock departs Arsenal for Newcastle/Latest on availability for West Ham clash

Newcastle United have, on Friday evening, confirmed the permanent signing of Joe Willock from Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Gunners starlet in demand

Willock’s name has of course taken centre stage in the media chatter for several weeks now.

The midfielder spent the 2nd half of last season playing his trade at St. James’ Park, after struggling for game-time under Mikel Arteta’s watch at the Emirates.

And the 21-year-old quickly went on to remind viewers of his unquestionable talents, racking up a hugely impressive 8 goals in 14 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

In turn, it subsequently came as little surprise to see speculation spread that those in a position of power on Tyneside had set their sights firmly on a permanent deal for Willock.

A lengthy and at times concerning saga (for those of a Newcastle persuasion) played out as a result, as Arsenal pointed towards their midfield talent’s scintillating spell of late-season form to stand firm on a £25 million asking price.

As outlined above, though, on Friday, negotiations between the respective boards at the Emirates and St. James’ Park have finally borne fruit.

In a series of posts across the clubs’ respective social media platforms, Arsenal and Newcastle announced that Willock has indeed linked up with the latter on a permanent basis:

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Willock has set his new side back a fee of £25 million.

The Newcastle faithful, though, will be forced to wait before seeing their latest addition back in the club’s colours, with the Geordit outfit having confirmed that Willock ‘will be available for selection for next week’s Premier League match against Aston Villa’.

This would of course insinuate that the 21-year-old will not be at Steve Bruce’s disposal for Sunday’s season opener versus West Ham.
