FC Barcelona nearing agreement with Arsenal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Barcelona look to be closing in on the transfer of Arsenal outcast, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found himself in hot water at the back end of 2021 due to a disciplinary breach.
It was later explained that Aubameyang was dropped due to a late return from a trip abroad. It was then confirmed by Arsenal that the striker had been stripped of the club’s captaincy.
As a result, Aubameyang went on to miss Arsenal’s last seven Premier League matches, though this stretch includes his departure to link up with Gabon for the African Cup of Nations.
Regardless, the former Borussia Dortmund man appears to remain out in the cold, and it has been reported that Arsenal are willing to let the forward leave the club in January.
And now, the possibility of Aubameyang departing the club looks to have increased a fair bit on Sunday.
As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, Barcelona are close to reaching an agreement with Arsenal to sign striker Aubameyang on loan for the rest of the season.
🚨 EXCL: Barcelona nearing agreement with Arsenal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang loan until summer. Main issue to resolve is salary. Would be major saving for #AFC but no loan fee or buy option/obligation. No incoming deals close @TheAthleticUK #FCBarcelona https://t.co/D8Xj4gy7UC

The potential issue in Aubameyang joining Barcelona
The main issue left to resolve is the payment of Aubameyang’s salary, believed to be around £350,000-a-week, and who covers what proportion of that income.
Ornstein reports that it is believed that Arsenal would not receive a loan fee for the forward, but want Barcelona to cover as much of his wages as possible.
However, though having Barca cover most of Auba’s salary would be a huge saving, it is made complicated by the Spanish club’s financial state.
