Fast X: Rita Moreno as Dominic Toretto’s grandmother, reveals Vin Diesel

Rita Moreno has joined the cast of Fast X, the upcoming Fast & Furious movie.

The 90-year-old actor will play the grandmother of the franchise’s main character, Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel, in the 10th installment of Fast & Furious.

Diesel shared the news of Moreno’s casting in a video message, in which he appeared with the veteran actor and his co-star Michelle Rodriguez.

“I’ve always dreamed of working with Rita Moreno, and having her play my grandmother makes me smile. I’m so blessed,” Diesel said, seated between Moreno and Rodriguez.

Moreno said, “You know what, I think I was entertaining…I think my old age was waiting for you to invite me. Isn’t that nice? The answer is yes, I will. And yes, no I’m just doing it, but I’m excited. I’m excited to do it. I’m so excited. It’s going to be so much fun!”

Last year, Diesel told Variety he wanted to cast Moreno to play his grandmother in the long-running action franchise.

Moreno joins fellow newcomers Brie Larson and Jason Momoa in the cast, which also includes franchise regulars Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Sung Kang.

Louis Leterrier is set to direct Fast X, taking over from Justin Lin, who left the project just days after filming.

Fast X is set to release on May 19, 2023 in theaters worldwide.
