FA Cup quarter-final draw: Giants avoid one another as pair of all-Premier League ties potentially in store

The draw for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup was made official a short time ago, with the heavyweights of the Premier League no doubt delighted to have avoided each other once more.

With champions Leicester City having been ousted in the competition’s last round, a new FA Cup champion, of course, will be crowned this coming May, on the back of the latest Wembley showpiece occasion.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, as things stand, represent the three frontrunners for the trophy, with Pep Guardiola, Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp, in turn, having breathed a sigh of relief on Thursday evening.

This comes with all three having been paired up with clubs of lesser stature as part of the draw for the competition’s Last-8.

Chelsea, last season’s runners-up, have been tasked with a trip to Championship outfit Middlesbrough, who will no doubt be cursing their luck ahead of another daunting tie after sending Manchester United and Tottenham packing en route to the quarter-finals.

Man City, meanwhile, face an all-Premier League tie, in the form of a visit to St. Mary’s to take on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s rejuvenated Southampton.

Liverpool are guaranteed to face Championship opposition when they travel to either Nottingham Forest or Huddersfield Town, whilst rounding out the draw will be a meeting between Crystal Palace and one of Everton or non-league Boreham Wood, set to face off later this evening.
