Ex-Chelsea defender John Terry makes Raphael Varane Manchester United predictions

Varane to Man United

Manchester United confirmed at the back end of July that they had agreed a deal in principle with Real Madrid for the transfer of Raphael Varane:

Man United would then announce on Saturday that Varane is indeed now their player:

The deal is initially expected to set Man United back just £34m, which seems like a serious bargain given the wealth of experience and winning mentality the World Cup and Champions League winner should bring to the club.

Unfortunately for United fans, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had already confirmed on Friday that Varane would play no part in their first game of the seaosn vs Leeds:

“He hasn’t trained with us. Things take time. Not 100 per cent done yet. He won’t be involved because he has not trained with us.

“The big hold up was the quarantine and the isolation – it will be done soon.”

John Terry on Raphael Varane

Whenever he does get up to speed though, Varane is sure to greatly enhance Man United’s backline.

And ahead of Varane eventually linking up with the Red Devils, John Terry has been discussing the 28-year-old.

Terry is one of the Premier League’s all-time greatest central defenders, winning the Premier League, Champions League and captaining the Chelsea side who conceded the fewest goals ever in a single PL season back in 2004/05.

And now, when speaking about Varane, Terry has predicted that the former Real Madrid man will hit the ground running with United:

“But when you’ve played at the level and kind of competition that he’s played at – winning the World Cup, Champions Leagues – he’ll hit the ground running I’m sure of that.

Terry also expects Varane to have a great relationship with Harry Maguire, drawing similarities between his and Ricardo Carvalho’s at Chelsea:

“I think him and Harry (Maguire) will have a great relationship together. It kind of reminds me of myself and Carvalho, if I’m honest.

“The kind of Rolls-Royce that Varane is and how good Harry is on the ball and aggressive as well.

“So I think they’ll be a great combination together and, like I say, it will definitely strengthen them moving forward.

“But Varane is a top, top player and I’m looking forward to seeing how he does in the league this year.”
