Everton provide explanation for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s absence vs Man United

Man United vs Everton

Everton are currently locked in action with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The game is Everton’s final pre-season clash before the start of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, which the Toffees kick off against Southampton on August 14th.

Both Everton and Manchester United would put out fairly strong starting line-ups on Saturday afternoon, though a few key players were still absent from either side.

Why Calvert-Lewin is missing for Everton vs Man United

The most noticeable absentee for Everton was Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

With Richarlison still currently at the Olympics with Brazil, DCL is Everton’s only real striking option ahead of the new season, so losing him for a prolonged period would of course be a huge blow for the Merseysiders.

However, Everton have since provided an explanation for the hitman’s absence, stating that he is out with a ‘slight knock’. Andre Gomes and Jean-Phillipe Gbamin are also out as a precaution:

Dominic Calvert-Lewin misses today’s match with a slight knock while Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin are left out as a precaution.

And though not confirmed by Everton, reports are suggesting that Calvert-Lewin injured his toe in training this week, with the extent of the issue not yet known.
