Everton owner Moshiri backs Vitor Pereira in battle over impending managerial appointment at Everton

Everton owner Moshiri backs Vitor Pereira in battle over impending managerial appointment at Everton

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri and club chairman Bill Kenwright have come under fire after the Toffees have embarked on a painful 2021-22 Premier League campaign that sees the Merseyside outfit just four points clear of the bottom three with nearly half the season remaining.

As expected, the club parted ways with Rafa Benítez, and though former Everton striker Duncan Ferguson has taken the reigns on an interim basis, the club must persist in securing a new manager as soon as possible if it is to craft an appropriate plan to avoid the unthinkable come the end of term.

For Moshiri, that plan revolves around former FC Porto manager Vitor Pereira according to The Guardian. Pereira himself corroborated that claim when he gave an interview with SkySports while lifting the lid on his meeting with Moshiri as well as Kenwright and others involved with the club.

Pereira has most notably cut his teeth with not just Portuguese giants Porto but also Fenerbahçe as well as Olympiacos across a credible managerial career that has featured a combined nine pieces of silverware in Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Greece, and China. But he also comes with a few red flags as well; namely his relegation from the 2.Bundesliga with TSV 1860 Munich and his most recent stint with Fenerbahçe ending after just five months before he was sacked.

Frank Lampard could make return to management with Everton

On the back of those concerns, it has been said that some inside the clubs hierarchal structure view Pereira as a gamble and prefer other targets and one of those names is in the form of ex-Chelsea and Derby County manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard has been out of work since he parted ways with the Blues but could see Everton as the perfect club to redeem his credentials with given their current set of circumstances.

Though struggling on the pitch, the Toffees do indeed have a cadre of players that the former England international could work with while his track record with putting his faith in young players could bone well for the likes of Anthony Gordon and Nathan Patterson.

With Pereira reportedly set to remove his name from a list of managerial candidates that could turn up at Goodison Park, Lampard could well be in pole position for his return to the Premier League in the immediate future.
