Everton struggle with injury woes

Everton have been dealt a double injury blow over the last 48 hours, which could threaten to disrupt their strong start to the season.

Firstly, it emerged that Rafa Benitez was going to be without Doucoure for over a month with a broken foot, a huge blow given his importance to their side in both boxes.

To compound matters, the club announced that key striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has suffered a “setback” in his recovery from a torn quadriceps. The striker had scored three goals in three appearances for the Toffees, but last appeared in August.

In a statement on their website, the club said:

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from a quadriceps injury and will remain out for a number of weeks.

The Everton striker has not played since the Blues’ Premier League clash at Brighton & Hove Albion on 28 August, when he scored from the penalty spot in a 2-0 victory.

Calvert-Lewin will continue to receive specialist treatment and an update on the England international’s fitness will be provided in due course.

Richarlison hands Rafa Benitez a boost

Amidst the double injury blow, however, Benitez has been handed a ray of light in the form of Richarlison. The Brazilian forward has been absent for the past four Premier League games due to a knee injury, but has returned to full training ahead of Everton’s game against Watford on Saturday afternoon.

This will come as a massive boost for the Toffees faithful, with the Brazilian a key player for them since he joined from Watford in 2018. Will he come back in time to sting the Hornets?
