Everton finally come to managerial decision as job offer tabled

Frank Lampard has been offered the managerial reins at Premier League outfit Everton, it has been confirmed on Friday night.

The subject of the hotseat at Goodison Park has of course proven headline news over the course of the last couple of weeks, owing to the long overdue dismissal of Rafael Benitez.

And now, it appears as though a decision on Benitez’s replacement has finally been made, with the aforementioned Lampard having beaten out competition from the likes of Vitor Pereira and Duncan Ferguson to secure the post.

As per a report from The Telegraph, the former English international, out of work since being dismissed by Chelsea 12 months ago, thoroughly impressed the Everton brass during a call-back interview:

‘Lampard was interviewed again formally this week and made himself the stand-out candidate.’

Lampard, in turn, is expected to be unveiled as the latest face in the dugout on the blue half of Merseyside in time to take charge of the Toffees’ FA Cup showdown with Brentford next weekend.

‘Have a job at Derby’

Word of Lampard being offered the job at Goodison, interestingly, comes just hours after Everton icon Wayne Rooney provided an explanation for his decision to turn down the chance to interview for the vacant post on Merseyside.

Speaking to the media on Friday afternoon, ex-Blues hitman Rooney confirmed that his agent was approached over the possibility of a return to his former stomping ground.

The tactician, however, knocked back such advances, assuring that he remains fully committed to Derby County’s efforts to stave off relegation from the Championship:
